Someone has noted that the difference between the rich and the poor is that while the rich invest their money and spend what’s left, the poor spend their money and invest what’s left.
I believe that’s a true observation about money, but it’s also true about time. Two young people may graduate from high school and face career choices. One chooses the immediate gratification route of instant income and earns quick wages but has not further career goal in mind. Another determines to invest his time learning a trade, which may take a while, but is a much better choice in the long run as it opens more doors and provides more options later in life.
Just as a wise person makes financial investments all through life that eventually have a long term payoff, so the Christian must learn that by investing time in the short term to seek God’s best, he opens doors of greater usefulness later on. That’s why investing time before spending time is redeeming the time.

Genesis 5 is the first of several chapters in Scripture devoted to genealogy. It gives us a list of the descendants of Adam down through Noah. We’re told for example that:
All the days that Adam lived were nine hundred and thirty years: and he died.
All the days of Seth were nine hundred and twelve years: and he died.
All the days of Methuselah were nine hundred sixty and nine years: and he died.
And so on through the chapter.
Two things stand out about the men on this list. They all lived extraordinarily long lives. And the final statement about their lives is always the same-and he died.
Perhaps no one will ever write your life story. But if they did, it would end the same way as these men—and he died.
Face it—if you could live to be 900 you’d still die and go into eternity. That’s why our focus must be on preparing for eternity by redeeming the time.

"It’s been said that knowledge will not change a negative emotion, but action will. I believe that is a true observation.
Many people squander days, months or even years of their life away in depression and self-pity. They may read a book or talk to their pastor about their problem looking for some key insight that will help them overcome it. And that’s a good first step, but if gaining knowledge is all they do, it likely won’t produce lasting results. God’s solution involves taking action and spending time in ways that reflect a change of behavior.
If you’re having a down day today, it may be because you’re focus is totally on you. And nothing you hear on this radio station can help you until you’re willing to shift that focus to serving others.
Remember, it is not what you know that counts. It is what you do with what you know. That’s why taking action will overcome negative emotions and redeem the time.
